Veggietiger awakens

I’m dreaming. I notice that I’m standing in water.
From the reflection in water I see I’ve become a tiger;
orange fur, black stripes, sharp teeth and claws.

I want meat, lots of meat.
I want to tear open stomachs, shred guts,
sink my teeth into a heart and chew delicious lungs.

I have an aggressive growth strategy, ignited by my greed.
Or infected to me by the spirit of this greedy era.

I have seen many man-eating tigers,
at work, evening news and history books.
Charging forwards blinded by their goals,
mutilating others with their sharp thoughts.

Suddenly my strength startles me,
and I withdraw my claws,
trying to look kind and harmless.
Under pressure I’m just like them.

I want to find the tiger’s power within my mind,
the agile muscles and sharp claws,
but I don’t want to savage anyone
with my thoughts and words.

I want to help and be helped,
to be one with everything.
I want a gentle growth strategy,
I choose a spiritual path,
an opening journey towards others.

I want to turn into a vegetarian tiger.
