Gate to Serenity

I was listening to Eckhart Tolle. He was speaking in the background, and beautiful images were floating on the screen. My mind was stopped by a picture with this sentence: ”Now is the entry point into life”.

Am I alive, truly? Or am I just acting my role, together with other actors?

I went for a walk, to the forest. I saw two sticks in the ground, crossed. The horizontal stick made me think of the story of my life, linear time, past – future from left to right. All good or bad that has happened or can happen.

The vertical stick represents this moment, or the timeless dimension. The upper end of the stick represents the content of this moment – do I really see what is happening now? The lower end of the stick represents the depth of this moment – am I open to its whisper, to its limitless potential?

Which stick, or axis is more important? I saw the three key questions of  Theory U, regarding the Eye of the Needle, or the Narrow Gate. Three powerful questions: What do I let go? What do I keep, and nourish? What new do I let come?

I realised that to live (and work) more skilfully, I must let go of two things: my past and my future. And I must nourish the present moment – especially its depth, the quality of my Being.

In other words, I have to let go of my life story, and surrender to Life. I have to listen to this moment, with all my being. I have to focus on the vertical stick, and take a more playful and spacious attitude to the horizontal stick.

Perhaps this insight will open the Gate to Serenity, in the midst of a busy everyday?

– All the best, Pekka
